When should my brake pads be replaced?

Each time the brake pedal is pressed or the brakes are engaged, the inevitable fact is that the brake pads are creating friction against the brake rotor and ultimately wearing out. As their are differentiating materials, compositions and different brake setups in each individual vehicle, the distance and time travelled between brake pad and rotor replacements will always differ between driver to driver and vehicle to vehicle.

When Should Brake Pads Be Replaced

Most industry adaptions are that any brake pad below 3mm is considered worn out 'and wont last a full service interval' obviously this can change between vehicle to vehicle and again driver to driver, so best to get a qualified mechanic (such as West End Service Centre) to assess and independently check and report on your braking system components.

Most modern vehicles are now fitted with a brake pad wear indicator with a pre set wear point as set by the vehicle or brake pad manufacture which will warn the driver of worn or dangerously low brake pads, when this light comes on, vehicle owners are advised to immediately get the brakes assessed by a qualified mechanic or service workshop.

When vehicle maintenance is performed by a reputable service centre, owners can be assured that their braking components are at a minimum checked, assessed and reported. The workshop should always keep records and advise on recommendations such as brake pad replacements, brake rotor replacements or machining, brake fluid flushing and any applicable adjustments and lubrications required now or in the near future. Trust West End Service Centre to do this for you - the braking experts.
